The Problems With 'Possums

A lot of us feel better nature by putting up bird feeders inside our backyard. One from the problems associated with bird feeders is the unwanted guests that the bird feeder may attract.
If you had been to set up a camera and take nighttime photos with the area through your bird feeder, selecting astounded by the range of animals that may make an appearance.
Opossums (possums), together with all kinds of other species seem to have a built-in GPS that knows the location of each and every bird feeder in the neighborhood. These animals make nightly house calls to completely clean the seeds that birds have scattered in the grass beneath the bird feeder.
Although possums have an overabundance of teeth (50) than another North American animal, they generally acquiesce to raccoons, but will often fight with skunks over those discarded bird-seeds. Some from the nighttime skunk odors you smell are due to those skunk and possum confrontations.
As these nocturnal animals go to and from your bird feeder, from time to time their route will require them over the foundation your own home. They may visit to your air conditioning unit to get a drink of water with the condensation pipe about the unit. That's when the actual trouble begins.
Many air conditioners have openings in the frame which the device sits. Animals can squeeze through these openings and gain access into your crawlspace. Now  Possum Catcher Melbourne  use a rut to call home, next to a water and meal source.
Not being house-broken, these animals deposit waste (usually along the inside foundation wall) beneath your house, and you'll begin to experience unpleasant odors filtering up into your house. Another problem primarily associated with possums are fleas.
Over time, as fleas multiply on these animals some with the fleas will start to surface with the floor and into the house. Our company gets several phone calls each month from your home owners with flea problems who don't even own pets. Many times those fleas will be the consequence of a possum or other animal inside crawlspace.
Now onto a few in the more unpleasant possum problems. One is odor. Possums will exude a really unpleasant green secretion occasionally of distress which is a significant smell to behold. Possums also use a very short lifespan. Whether it's a design flaw, bad luck or simply plain not enough intelligence, possums survive average only 24 months inside wild. If you have one living inside the crawlspace this a whole new degree of possum problem.
Of each of the dead animals we remove from crawlspaces, approximately 80% are possums. The smell of a defunct possum is something you truly need to avoid, as will be the fleas looking for any new "live" host.
